DIY Chokers

I am totally in love with this choker trend thats going on right now. However, looking at chokers in the store to purchase was a deflating experience. Chincy, poorly made, and overpriced are words that I would use to describe the chokers I found. When I got home yesterday, I decided to see if I could make my own *better* chokers, and you know what? I did! When I started to look around, I found that I already had a LOT of things to make these little trendy accents. The best part? I didn't spend a dime! Here is how I did it.
First, I rummaged through all the jewelry I had. Particularly, I was on the lookout for clip on earrings, or earrings that had lost their partner, pendants that had lost their necklaces, brooches, rings, and any random chains I had. Also, I searched amongst the wrapping paper to find some ribbon. In the end, I had a bunch of things to work with!

As you can see, I found all sorts of things to use as the actual choker: a bra strap, bandana, headband, velvet ribbon, plus the chains in varying lengths.

Now the fun begins. Check out the looks I came up with!
Here, I took the bandana, rolled it up, tied it around my neck, then put a small pin I found on the knot.

Pretty cute, huh? It gets even better. In this next look, I clasped an old bra strap and pinned a pendant on it.

I like that making these chokes gives use to things that I other wise wouldn't wear... Like in this next look where I took a headband and put all sorts of earrings on it that were just single earrings. The headband was loose enough around my neck that the earring backs did not dig into my skin.

Here, I took some velvet ribbon and strung old rings on it.

Then I took the same ribbon, and tied a bow. While tying the bow, I tied in a clip-on earring.

In this next look, I took two different length chains and clipped them together with a clip-on earring.

In this last look, I did the same thing, except I mixed the ribbon and gold chains.

I hope you enjoyed these ideas... now its your turn to explore the underbelly of your closet and see what you have to make some chokers with! All aboard the choker train!
